It's a Blogger Book Swap!

ATTN All Geeks, Nerds, Bookworms, and All Around Awesome People:

I am co-hosting a Blogger Book Swap!

What is a book swap, you may ask?
Well, it's simply a chance for bloggers to meet other bloggers and share their love for books.  We will not only make new friends, but also receive a new book!

What do I have to do?
If you choose to join, (and I super duper hope you do) you will be paired randomly with another book loving blogger.  Jessica from Sweet Green Tangerine will email you with your partners information, then you can follow each others' blogs and Goodreads profiles. (Don't have one?)  Once you get to know each other, you choose a book & send it to them.  I think it's best to keep the book a secret, and if possible, send them one you have read and loved.  Try not to send them one they've already read if you can avoid it.

How much will I have to spend?
You don't have to spend a lot!  Christmas is coming up and new books can be pricey.  In case you haven't noticed, a used book is still as functional as a brand new one (in most cases).  There's no shame in shopping at a thrift store or from your own shelves. Anyway, shipping shouldn't cost more than {five} dollars & if the book is the only thing you are shipping, don't forget to use Media Mail postage.

Then what?
When you do receive your book in the mail, do a little blog about it.  Then, head back over here on November 8th to link it up so we can all share the book swap fun!

The Name Game

Becky Becky bo Becky!  Banana fanna fo Fecky!  Fe fi mo Mecky!  BECKY!

Naming your unborn child can either be a lot of fun or incredibly stressful. We weren't quite sure what we were doing when we were naming our son, eight years ago. 

I knew I wanted him to have his fathers name as his middle name. Patrick. I love the name Patrick. We searched high and low for name ideas for a first name. I wanted Corbin & the Mr wanted Aidan. He liked Corbin alright, but his mind always went right to Corbin Dallas. Well, he won. No Corbin. (insert sad face here) It was our first child and a boy. He was to be my husbands namesake with the middle and last names being the same as his. I though I was doing the right thing by letting him have final say on a first name even tho I didn't completely LOVE it.  Aidan Patrick it is. 

I hate to say this, but both the Mr & I somewhat regret naming him Aidan. Little did we know about the whole Aidan, Hayden, Jayden, Brayden, Kayden CRAZE! ugh.

For our second pregnancy, I was determined to have the last word on our daughters name. First, she was Danika Rose. She was called Dani Rose almost he entire time she was in my belly. We adored her & her new name. Until.... fricken Danica Patrick was all in the news towards the end of the pregnancy. With my husbands name being Patrick and our sons middle name being Patrick, we were asked DAILY if we were naming our daughter after Danica Patrick and everyone thought it was a grand idea to use Patrick as her middle name as well. 
Two Weeks before her due date and after a very long wait at the doctors office, we both came home and started talking about our thoughts on the name we had loved so dearly. He was asked three times earlier that day about the whole Danica Patrick connection and I was asked multiple times as well. We were done. We were over it. We wanted to distance ourselves from that name. But we had grown to love our Dani Rose. What were we to do?
I gave the hubs a list of a few names I was loving at the time. (I was on a short name kick)

Myra

Cora

Nova

Ella

Mia

Myra won. Since we couldn't stand to lose our Dani Rose, we went with Myra Danielle Rose. I have my Myra and he has his little Dani Rose. I am happy to report that her name fits her to a T.

eReaders vs. The Printed Word

DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!!

Over the past few years, especially this last year, my little library has grown greatly. I have some amazing beauties in there thanks to this little store. 

As I have mentioned before, we are a military family. 

(Insert lame Hooah here) So let me break that down for you: We move. Sometimes we have movers; sometimes we do not. Books are heavy. I’m a wimp. Are you trackin' where this is going?  eReaders are a good alternative to the excessive weight of a growing hardcover library. 

 

My current summer read is The Perks of Being a Wallflower via the eReader.  Love.

Its all about the memories.

Look at all those glorious tabs. So many places marked, so few actually visited. 
Next on the list: Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. Then Carlsbad Caverns National Park, also in New Mexico. 
We may technically live in Texas right now, but we rarely ever explore Texas. New Mexico is right down I-10 and we much prefer to head that direction.  Everywhere I want to explore in Texas is minimum of 500 miles away. I'm tempted to hop on a plane for a two hour flight to Austin... All in due time I suppose.

The Book Chat in Audio

Audio Books & I have a love hate relationship.  Some are fantastic. Some completely suck.



Its summer time, which for us means that it is also travel time! I often use the time spent in route to a new destination as a chance to catch up on a little light 'reading' if you will. Well, less reading and more popping in the ear buds and drowning out the 52000 questions my kids ask per hour. 

In less than two weeks the minions and I are off to St. Louis, then out to rural Missouri for two weeks. During the flight I am excited to listen to the one and only, The Bloggess herself, Jenny Lawson- reading her new memoir Let's Pretend This Never Happened.  
 

I am totally stoked about listening to this and surely laughing my ass off most of the flight! Ah, inappropriate humor just warms my heart all up like a gooey marshmallow.


In the past, I have listened to The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Eat Pray Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert, American on Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot by Craig Ferguson and all of The Hunger Games. 

The Hunger Games were after I read the books & told my hubs to check them out. He rarely has time to sit and read anything so he just puts it on his iPod and goes on about his day listening to them while working in his office. He just loves audio books & seems to not care if others in the car have indeed already read the books. 

Next on his list is A Song of Fire and Ice by R.R. Martin (The Game of Thrones)


My absolute favorite thus far has to be American on Purpose! How can you not adore Craig Ferguson and his cute Scottish accent?! So funny, so honest, so real. His honesty is both hilarious and saddening.


My least favorite has been Eat Pray Love. This could be because of the incredibly long boring car ride then topping it off with an incredibly whinny self indulged story that really wasn't all that great, entertaining, or enlightening. It kinda just sucked. Please don't hate me for saying that.
