It's a Blogger Book Swap!

ATTN All Geeks, Nerds, Bookworms, and All Around Awesome People:

I am co-hosting a Blogger Book Swap!
*Happy Dance*

What is a book swap, you may ask?

Well, it's simply a chance for bloggers to meet other bloggers and share their love for books.  We will not only make new friends, but also receive a new book!

What do I have to do?

If you choose to join, (and I super duper hope you do) you will be paired randomly with another book loving blogger.  Jessica from Sweet Green Tangerine will email you with your partners information, then you can follow each others' blogs and Goodreads profiles. (Don't have one?)  Once you get to know each other, you choose a book & send it to them.  I think it's best to keep the book a secret, and if possible, send them one you have read and loved.  Try not to send them one they've already read if you can avoid it.

How much will I have to spend?

You don't have to spend a lot!  Christmas is coming up and new books can be pricey.  In case you haven't noticed, a used book is still as functional as a brand new one (in most cases).  There's no shame in shopping at a thrift store or from your own shelves. Anyway, shipping shouldn't cost more than {five} dollars & if the book is the only thing you are shipping, don't forget to use Media Mail postage.

Then what?

When you do receive your book in the mail, do a little blog about it.  Then, head back over here on November 8th to link it up so we can all share the book swap fun!

Please check them out & say HI!

Also, please spread the word about the book swap so we can recruit even more bloggers to participate!  If you post about it on twitter, use the hashtag #bloggerbookswap

please place this button on your sidebar so your readers can share in the fun too!

Do you eRead?

eReaders vs. The Printed Word

DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!!

Over the past few years, especially this last year, my little library has grown greatly. I have some amazing beauties in there thanks to this little store.

As I have mentioned before, we are a military family.
(Insert lame Hooah here) So let me break that down for you: We move. Sometimes we have movers; sometimes we do not. Books are heavy. I’m a wimp. Are you trackin' where this is going?  eReaders are a good alternative to the excessive weight of a growing hardcover library.

My current summer read is The Perks of Being a Wallflower via the eReader.  Love.
{So. Much. Love.}
I will be buying the printed version as well. Do you know how many marvelous quotes are in this book? No? Well pick up or download a copy today! Today! Before you see the movie!

Excuses Excuses blah blah blah

TRUTH: I have been unmotivated, uninspired, and a complete slacker.
My bad.

I have a list made (shocker) of topics and I have lots of fun stuff planned for future blog posts in hopes of getting back into the swing of things. Also, if you are part of a weekly chat/party/prompt thingy, please feel free to leave a link in the comments or send me an email. I would love to Check-ch-check-check-check-ch-check it out, What-wha-what-what-what's it all about. WHAT! Did I just make a Beastie Boy reference? Totally did.  Here is a fun one that I try to participate in, but I'm a slacker and only do it sometimes. I suck. Sorry Jess.

If you would like to follow along via Instagram : bgbecky.
I love Instagram. TRUTH: its the main reason I bought an iPhone. Don't judge me.

-Bookshelves of Wonder-

Ah, childhood memories,
prompted by The.Book.Chat at Sweet Green Tangerine.

This week she asked for our favorite books from childhood and adolescence. Hmm, time to divulge a little insight to my life. I wasn’t much of a reader as a child. Blame it on what you will- The fact is, I cannot recall a single time my mother ever just sitting and reading to me as a child. Surely she did. She had to? I do, however, remember my dad reading me some of J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit. Once. It was thrilling. As for myself, though, I didn’t care much for sitting still and exploring the life inside books. If a teacher did not require it, I did not read it. This went on throughout High School.

Hindsight, this makes me sad. Very sad. As a result, I read to my kids often. I want them to have a passion that I never had as a child. I want them to get lost in the magical words of wonder.
As always, I want to give them the world. So this post is not about my favorite childhood book, instead it is about the things that I hope my kids remember when they are grown.

The daughter and I went in search of a thrifty bookstore I had heard about. We found it. It was amazing!

Coincidentally, without even looking to see what Jessica’s chat topic was for this week, I picked up a few classics & they seem to fit in perfectly. Two of which I am particularly excited to add to her bookshelf and start reading to her.

They are all four vintage and beautiful; smelling like an old library. *Heaven*

o   Heidi, Johanna Spyri
o   Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
o   Bedknob and Broomstick, Mary Norton

How gorgeous are these?!

So Random, but old Abe's face kind freaks me out a bit.
I keep imagining flowers & paisleys on it like a sugar skull...
