Oh, Pinterest.

"Tie a baggy of vinegar around a shower head" ~  they say.

"Leave it there over night"  ~ they say.

"It will clean all the residue and lime away" ~ they say.

     {Putting Pinterest Tips/Tricks to the test}

Since my shower head is so awkward, I ended up having to tape and tie the bag.
I left it over night, I forgot about it and left it for probably about 10 hours, to be honest.
Before doing this, the shower head was clogged and few holes worked properly. The water wasn't coming down in single streams like it should. It was all weird and wonky...

After spilling vinegar all over myself, I am happy to report that it worked like a smelly dream.

Home ownership - one DIY at a time

I feel like a snail on the treadmill of life.

There is SO much to do to this house. I'm trying to document everything on here so I can look back later and be proud of our accomplishments. But blogging about painting a light fixture or replacing a door knob seems so tedious.
   Oh well.
   So Far We Have:
  •  Lime green paint in the sun room
  •  New light switch plate in the sun room
  •  Planted Morning Glories out front
  •  Added a lattice for said morning glories
  •  Dug up all cactus in the front yard
  •  Fresh paint for the entryway
  •  New light switch plates in entryway and hallway
  •  Fresh paint in the living room and dining room
  •  New refrigerator
  •  Convert & painted wet bar to a built in bookshelf
  •  New Carpet in living room
  •  New tile in dining room
  •  Replaced light fixture in hallway
  •  Repaint light fixture in sun room
  •  Replaced master bedroom door knob
  •  Removed dead palm tree from the front yard
  •  Replaced toilet handle & faucet in hall bathroom (here)
  •  Fresh paint in the hall bathroom
  •  Laundry room makeover

Ahhh its so ongoing. Our to do list is fooooorever long. blah. All this work just to list the house for sale as soon as we get orders to PCS somewhere else.

DIY Day

Today, I am determined.
I will do something.
I will do more than one something.
I will finish each project I start.

Confession: I'm posting this from my Draft's.
I didn't even finish the blog post last night. Whoops!
Oh, and my 'Pinteresting Canvas Art' is not complete either.
I'll finish it up today and post my results. So far, I have a few Pinterest Fails under my belt and no real success stories.

Lookie what I got! A complete color chart thingy from Behr. How awesome is this?!

Flowerpot Makeover:
$1.98 flowerpot from Lowes
$3 scrapbook rub-on's from Michael's
Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Clear Gloss Finish from Wal-Mart

Disclaimer: I can not vouch for the longevity of this little DIY, but I will update this post when/if they start to come off. So far so good.
This damn thing both infuriated me and completely grossed me out. I did learn, however, that the next time I buy a house (if there is a next time) I will require the previous owners to remove their own black garbage disposal thingy because holy freakin nasty! I couldn't even get the damn thing out. There was so much grossness that I had to soak it with Goo Gone for a good 20 mins and pried it out with a butter knife and scissors. Gagging the whole time. But...
VICTORY IS MINE
and yes, because of my struggle, I deemed this blogworthy.

Next up, the guest bathroom.
This is a job for the Mr.
Changing out the ugly old faucet and adding a way cute new one.
P.S. How bout the $2.99 Pier 1 toothbrush holder.
THRIFTED - Score!
(ignore the mirror - thinking about
doing this to it later, but that's a whole other post)

Its going to be
HOT HOT HOT!
I'm so going to love it!!
Cannot wait to post the AFTER pictures of this Home DIY.

Aww, My Mr. hard at work! ^^

Good Stuff

Happy New Year, we have a healthy child. She was able to get her sutures out and her incisions are healing nicely. In a couple years you probably wont even be able to see much of a scar. All pathology tests have been turning up negative! Thank you ALL for your support and kind words! xoxo
(don't know what I'm talking about? find out more here and here)

Here's to having two healthy kids and a rotten dog.

Life is good.
Life is grand.
Life in Texas is to improving, albeit slow, improving nonetheless.

After everything 'Eleven' had in store for us, all I have to say is:

2012, Bring. It. On.

tail spin

Many hands make light work for the Christmas clean up. Here, my handsome little boy, is repositioning ornaments that the great dane knocked off with his forever-wagging tail. This clean up is an all day, every day occurrence. The dog just doesnt understand his size. When the big guy backs up, his front half is safe, but his hind quarters are backing up into the tree, sending ornaments & candy canes flying through the air. It is a sight to be seen, I tell you.
***
Isn't it funny how one minute your kiddo looks like the same little boy you know and love, but in just a blink of an eye, you notice your little boy starting to grow into a big boy. He's my baby. My seven year old baby... You can call him a mama's boy if you want, both him & I are ok with that :) xoxo

Cozy and Comfy!

Its a brr cold 48.0 F (8.9 C) 46 F here. Tonight I am cozy-ing it up near the fire, watching some movies, and waiting to hear about my new darling niece making her debut to the world tonight!

Our first fire of the season. Not too shabby.

Cheers and have a Fab-tab week!

Happy Friday

This is how I felt this week!

We can do it! (image credit: www.historyimages.com)

I was able to accomplish a lot, but I'll just post about two :)

*We bought our house in August and it’s been one DIY project after another. This week I tackled removing the handicap bars from the guest bathroom. ((Still need to replace tiles))

Project one: The remove a silicone seal on tile.

You will need Goo Gone, a flat head screwdriver ((ok, my hubs said I was crazy and next time just use a putty knife. So maybe you want to try that instead.)) And an all purpose cleaner. I like Mrs. Meyers Clean Day.

Be sure to open a window. That Goo Gone goes right to your head! No joke.

(As you can see on the mirror below, it needs some diy love too.

I will be updating that in the near future.

I'm thinking add molding, frame it, and make it pretty!)

muhaha and he said I couldn't be done!
It did take me about an hour, but all the silicone seal crap was gone!

Project Two: The Polka Dotting of the letter P

I went to Michaels and found letter hooks for 90% off. NINETY PERCENT OFF! That is just crazy! So I got one for my niece, she should be making her debut to the world any day!
While I was bored last night, I grabbed some pencils and paint and went to town making polta dots on Miss P's new hook!

*Dab the eraser end of the pencil in some paint and voilà, perfect little polka dots.

ah, the week is now done.
Cheers to everyone!

its starting...

I saw this on To Make Love Stay and, since I too, am a total sucker for these memes I am playing along.  If you decide to do this as well, please leave me the link in your comment so I can check it out too!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? As if there is a doubt, Hot Cocoa.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa simply just places it under the tree, this mom & dad duo does the wrapping in this house.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? That’s a hard one. I say white lights on a purple tree. The hubs says colored lights on a fresh tree. How are we still married?

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Haven’t but I’m not oppose to it.
5. When do you put your decorations up? We will start pulling out the festive décor this weekend. Will also start all those many holiday crafts Pinterest has inspired.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? My grandma Joan used to make the most delicious chocolate pie. I miss it, I miss her more.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? As a child, I remember staying at my grandparents house, laying in bed & staring out my window. The night was bright from the moon light hitting the fresh snow, and I just knew if I stayed awake long enough, I would see the big guy. Alas, sleep prevailed. I woke to a scrumptious breakfast and to find a new bike waiting for me.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I honestly can’t recall. Perhaps it was so traumatizing that I blocked it out? Who knows?

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes. We were always allowed (at my grandparents) to open gifts from the grownups only. Now I’m one of the grownups. This is still weird to me.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Randomly.
I tried to do a color theme, but once you have kids, no theme necessary. Kids make things and you want to hand em up!

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I long for the day we celebrate a white Christmas again. We are Midwestern natives, the Army positioned us coastal for almost 10 years and now we are in the Southwest. One day we will go back to the places where we feel the most at home.

12. Can you ice skate? Psh, I have. I don’t. I wouldn’t count on my abilities to skate to save my life.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? I remember when my mom gave me my 1st CD player!! I was soooo excited until I realized she failed to get a CD to go with it. Instead I got disk shaped GUM. How cruel is that? #MomFail. Yea, I still remember this, Mom.

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with my husband and our little family. I wish we could be with our “extended” family back home, but at least my husband is home with me & the kiddos again this year. This is important. This I am thankful for.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? My Aunt Patty makes some wicked good fudge!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? We are still trying to find our niche on what will be OUR holiday tradition; the one we want our kids to remember and carry on.

17. What tops your tree? Only the brightest sparkling star will do.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I enjoy giving, mostly to my kids. Receiving isn’t important anymore.

19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? Yummy Yum Yum-o!

20. Favorite Christmas show? How bout movie? “You’ll shoot your eye out” A Christmas Story & “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” ELF!!

21. Saddest Christmas Song? HappyChristmas (war is over) by John Lennon. That being said, it is still one of my favorites. This one hit close to home. He does sing, ‘a very merry Christmas/and a happy new year/let’s hope its a good one’ and all that. However, I think he knew the idea of war wasn’t over and we would unavoidably be in another one sooner rather than later. He was right. Our war still isn’t over.

22. What is your favorite Christmas song? White Christmas by Bing Crosby. To this day, I cannot hear it without tearing up and being taken aback to memories my grandparents house again. As a child of divorced parents, my grandparents, in place of my dad, usually got me on Christmas Eve and because of this, majority of my Christmas memories revolve around their lovely home in the country. Grandma would let me have control of the record player and free run of the Christmas records. Bing was always one of the first ones I’d grab.

Handy Dandy

I used to consider myself a fairly creative, outside the box, thinker.  Since the popularity of Pinterest, I find myself in a constant state of ‘why didn’t I think of that’. Well, without going on The Pin first, to see how many other people do this, I am going to add my own little handy dandy tip of the day.

Ya know all that gross excess grease you end up with after cooking some things, especially bacon?! And we all know pouring grease and/or cooking oil down the drain is a HUGE no-no, right?! Wouldn’t want to cost yourself tons of cash when the pipelines get backed up causing both health and environmental hazards!!
So here's what I do:
I reuse a tub that ice cream came in as my spill safe zone and an old jar with a lid for the grossness.

…and if you wanna get all bedazzled about it, you can pretty it up, take a picture, and post it to Pinterest. Personally, I’m not wasting my craft supplies on it

((please pay no mind to under my sink. this house is a DIY in progress!))

I would also like to add, after seeing how much grease bacon produces, I no longer eat it. G-R-R-R-O-S-S!

☼ ☼ ☼

This weekend I am going to try to:

Finish reading Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Search for fabric for my kitchen.
I need curtains in a bad way and not just anything will do.

If I could thrift something like the ones shown
below, I'd be a happy girl.
Odds are that I will have to order. I hate buying new. Don't you?
Thrift stores have spoiled me & my budget :)

How do you like these colors?

Color My World

(btw: my husband totally hates these, lol he prefers the
stagnate 'grandma' approach to decorating)

I suppose we will also hit the dog park or take the gang for a hike
I would much rather hiking.
There is something about a dog park that
I dislike...a lot.

Whats on your agenda for this weekend?
